ImageWare Brings Facial Recognition To The Web

SAN DIEGO, July 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ImageWare Systems, Inc. today announced, through its long-standing relationship with Identix Incorporated , the development of FACE ID Web(TM), an Internet-based version of its FACE ID® facial recognition software.

ImageWare's FACE ID employs advanced biometric technology that allows users to identify a list of possible suspects by measuring distinct facial characteristics. With the eyes as a reference point, FACE ID utilizes a mathematic formula to produce a data record representing the face in question. The data record is then compared to a database of records that are created from mugshots, suspect composites, video clips or scanned photos. The search engine is resistant to changes in lighting, facial expression, hairstyles, disguises and pose. ImageWare customers have been using FACE ID in a stand-alone or networked environment since 1998.

FACE ID is enabled by Identix' proprietary FaceIt® facial recognition technology.

On the vision of ImageWare and its launch into the browser-based facial recognition arena, CEO Jim Miller said, "ImageWare is taking facial recognition out of the office and delivering it to the law enforcement, government and transportation sectors via the Internet and wireless Web."

"In doing so, we are eliminating the constraints current technology has imposed on these agencies and fulfilling our mission to empower them with better, stronger solutions to authenticate identities anywhere, anytime," added Miller.

Dr. Joseph J. Atick, Identix president and CEO stated, "We have long enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship with ImageWare, an entity we consider to be a pioneer in the development of cutting-edge mugshot applications based on our core FaceIt® engine. The robustness of the core FaceIt® technology and its capabilities in working with different image formats and in different environments has made it a standard component of many of the investigative tools that today's law enforcement agencies seek."
